Explore more →Between the upper chamber and the glass carafe sits something barely visible yet essential: a slim silicone gasket that keeps the cold water flowing exactly where it should – slowly, drop by drop, through the coffee bed.
Silicone fatigues over time, becomes brittle or loses its tension. A new gasket brings the Shizuku back to its calm, even drip pattern.
If the gasket no longer sits exactly right, water can bypass the coffee bed instead of dripping through it evenly – extraction becomes uneven, and the fine, sweet concentrate that Cold Drip is known for loses its balance.

| Function | Gasket between water tank and coffee bed |
| Material | Silicone |
| Origin | Hario, Japan |
For anyone with a Hario Shizuku whose gasket has become brittle, or where the water no longer runs evenly through the coffee bed. A small swap with a noticeable effect on every brew.
For Cold Drip you tend to grind coarser – a grinder that's affordable and precise like the Varia VS3 or the Comandante C40 from our coffee grinder collection, or with more comfort the Varia VS6. For dosing, scales from the Normcore range, or with app connectivity from the Acaia collection. You'll find paper filters and further accessories in the Hario collection, plus a chocolatey, round Cozy Chocolate.
If water runs past the side of the coffee bed or the drip rate becomes noticeably irregular, it's worth replacing.
Yes, the silicone gasket can be fitted without any tools.
That depends on how often it's used and how it's cared for – once it feels brittle or loses its tension, it's time.
Yes, in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) you can experience the replacement gasket in person.
In the cold concentrate, sweet, round beans really come through beautifully – the chocolate and nutty notes of Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight. It turns vivid and fruity with Wild Peach. That's our recommendation, one of many.
