A single shot needs its own measurements – the filter basket for around 7 grams is smaller than its double-basket counterpart, with a hole geometry tuned exactly to the smaller amount of coffee.
Why size and holes need to match
A single basket used for the wrong amount changes the ratio of coffee to basket surface – and with it, how evenly the water flows through the puck. A fresh basket with intact hole geometry ensures the shot turns out the way it should: evenly extracted, without channelling.
